How A Dog Made The Whole Family Pray The Rosary Again

There was a blog that I read wherein a priest made some scathing and hateful remarks about dogs. The priest was clearly out of line and shouldn't have said such remarks in the first place.

As I was contemplating this, I remembered a clear miracle of the rosary which was brought about by a dog. Read on.

There was a time, during the pandemic, that this family I'm talking about was very much dedicated to praying the rosary. I don't know if this is the state of other families when it comes to praying the rosary, the way the rosary was prayed was not perfect. Oh well, even Fr. Donald Calloway who has written so many books about the rosary expressly mentioned in one of his talks that he was never prayed a perfect rosary.

But, anyway, this family, while was mainly just reciting the rosary, the responses to the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be prayers were mainly done as it was, a response. No contemplation and no intention of praying the responses from the heart. But, the effort is there, they make it a point to pray the rosary every night and it was good.

Then, came a time when the grandmother who leads the rosary has noticed that her daughter and granddaughters were now doing other things while praying the rosary. Yes, they were still responding to the prayers; however, while responding the daughter and granddaughters were just scrolling on their phones or staring blankly onto the wall. They were just there for the sake of being there and providing responses to the prayers for the sake of responding.

So, the grandmother said, let's stop praying the rosary as a family, let's pray it individually. "You find your own time to pray it; but, we're no longer praying it together", the grandmother said.

So, they stopped.

Obviously, the grandmother's daughter, being the most distracted one of the group, didn't find time to pray the rosary. It even almost seemed like to the daughter that praying the rosary means nothing to her. A very sad claim.

The granddaughters who were almost on the same level as their mother when it comes to being distracted, also didn't find time to pray the rosary. Or, when asked, they'd say that they pray it before sleeping. Only God know if it's even true.

So, they basically stopped praying the rosary altogether, sadly.

Coco is the name of the dog. A very well-behaved dog. Never does unnecessary barks, and when she does one, it's a gentle bark. Coco has got five puppies, and all have grown. Four of them were even bigger than her, while the other one is a smaller than Coco.

During the days when the family stay prays the rosary, Coco is always the first one to go in front of the altar. A chair is prepared for her and she'd jump right onto the chair that's facing the altar, and she comfortably sits on the chair all the while looking at the altar and during the fourth or fifth mystery, she'd fall asleep.

During the time when the rosary is prayed by this family, Coco is very much behaved. It's almost as if she's praying, talking to her creator. What could be on her mind during those times? Only God knows.

Came a fateful day that Coco's pee was very clear, it was almost as clear as regular drinking water. Coco would suddenly shiver continuously, but she's not cold nor hot, it was a very sad sight to witness.

Through a lab test, it's been found out that Coco's liver is no longer functioning. But, to be sure, it was best that Coco be taken to a vet clinic that has an x-ray machine.

On the way to the clinic, I noticed Coco was panting so hard, it almost seemed like anytime she'd pass out. Out of breath, she can't catch one good breath. The whole time of the journey, I was talking to Coco, like how an adult talks to a child. This was an hour long ride before we reach the clinic. She vomited lots of liquid on our way to the vet, which made her have a harder time breathing.

Then, I remembered I have the Hallow app on my phone and thought I should play the daily rosary feature of the app, well, considering that Coco likes the rosary. So, I did.

I'm crying while writing this as I recall that sad day - after the first mystery, I heard Coco snoring. No shivering, no panting, just peaceful normal breathing. I played the same mystery on repeat, Coco was so peacefully sleeping during the remaining duration of the journey to the vet clinic.

Sadly, after the x-ray, it's been confirmed that Coco's liver is a wreck. Any time she's gonna pass away.

We went back home and I narrated to the family what transpired during the journey: the panting, vomiting, peaceful sleeping after the first mystery, the x-ray results, etc.

During that very night, the family started praying the rosary again. Coco, then went up to her seat, sat and faced the altar. Slept after the second mystery.

An hour later, Coco passed away.

But, her legacy lived on. The family is back to praying the rosary, every single night. All because of Coco, and the Holy Spirit working through her.
